The successful candidate will work with players and coaching staff to develop confidence, focus, resilience and a positive performance mindset.

Job Description

Job Title: Sports Psychologist

Department: Performance & Player Support

Location: Madison Borough Training Ground

To support the psychological wellbeing, confidence, resilience and performance of players at Madison Borough FC. The role involves helping players manage pressure and anxiety, teaching coping strategies for high-pressure situations and preparing athletes mentally for training and competitive matches.

The Sports Psychologist will also help strengthen team cohesion by encouraging positive relationships within squads and contributing to a supportive high-performance environment.

• Provide one-to-one support sessions with players.
• Deliver workshops on confidence, focus and mindset.
• Support players experiencing pressure, anxiety or setbacks.
• Teach coping strategies for high-pressure sporting situations.
• Work with coaching staff to improve mental resilience.
• Support academy players with wellbeing and development.
• Aid team cohesion and promote positive squad relationships.
• Create a supportive high-performance environment.

Person Specification

• Knowledge of psychology or sports psychology.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Ability to build rapport with players and staff.
• Strong empathy and people skills.
• A real passion for sports psychology and athlete development.
• Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
• Enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one.

• Experience working with athletes or sports teams.
• Exposure to high-performance sporting environments.
• Understanding of mental performance techniques.
• CPD certificates in specialist areas of sport psychology.
• Academic research experience in new psychological techniques.
• Awareness of evidence-based approaches in sports psychology.
